One Ummah Recitation

Uniting the Ummah for the People of Palestine

"Truly, We have granted you a clear victory" Surah Al-Fath (48:1)

What is the One Ummah Recitation?

With the extent of this tragedy unfolding before our eyes, we have all (at one point or another) been left feeling grief-stricken, afraid and helpless.

As Palestinians pull their loved ones from the rubble, whisper goodbyes to their dead, and run in search of refuge while carrying the bodies of injured individuals clinging to life - we ask ourselves:

  • What can we do?

  • How can we help?

  • Where do we begin?

The One Ummah Recitation campaign leverages the collective power of our Ummah through the common thread of the Qur’an that Allah has given us and advised us to hold on to because:

there is strength in numbers, power in unity and victory in our Qur’an

إن شاء الله

"Those to whom hypocrites said, “Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.” But it merely increased them in faith, and they said, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs.” Surah 3:173

Our Mission

  • Unite.

Unity is a key concept in Islam. By Allah (S.W.T)’s mercy and through the One Ummah Recitation campaign, we aim to create a tangible representation of the fact that our strength lies in our solidarity and that together, we can achieve, succeed and overcome more than we ever could alone إنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّٰهُ‎.

  • Recite.

The joint recitation of Allah’s book is a beautiful way to unite this Ummah. Muslims come from different countries and speak different languages - but we all, without fail, recite (and can resonate with) the very same Qur’an. For this reason, reciting together during this difficult time is not only a great way to connect with our Creator, increase our faith and strengthen our bond, but also to see how much we can achieve as a unified Ummah and a singular structure.

  • Align.

Working together to support innocent victims at this difficult time - when their families members are dying, their faith is being tested and their safety is under constant threat.

The support we provide with the words we recite will echo long after we are gone. We can’t live forever, but it is our duty to create an impact and leave a legacy of unwavering unity that will.

“Indeed, Allah made you victorious at Badr when you were ˹vastly˺ outnumbered. So be mindful of Allah, perhaps you will be grateful.” - 3:123

Our Vision

  • Why Us?

    Because Allah has explained that:

You (O ummah of Prophet Muhammad) are the best community ever raised for humanity—you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in Allah. Had the People of the Book believed, it would have been better for them. Some of them are faithful, but most are rebellious.”

    Surah 3:110

  • Why the Qur'an?

There is immense power in the perfectly preserved words of our Rabb. Allah explains: “And We send down in the Qur’ān that which is healing and mercy for the believers, and it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.

    • Surah 17:82

And hold firmly to the rope of Allāh (i.e. the Qur’an) all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allāh upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers…”

    • Surah 3:103

  • Why Now?

We are in dire need of change. However, it has been relayed to us that:

”Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves…”

It is time to change what is within ourselves and to change how we relate to, connect with and support one another.

"And [that] Allāh may aid you with a mighty victory." Surah Al-Fath (48:3)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Indeed, this Ummah (community) of yours is one Ummah (community) and I am your Lord, so worship Me.

— Surah Al-Anbiya [21:92]

“And Allah made this a sign of victory and reassurance to your hearts. Victory comes only from Allah. Surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.” - Surah 8:10

Quranic Inspiration

  • Hold firmly to the rope of Allah, and do not become divided. Remember God's grace to you: when you were enemies He united your hearts and you became brothers through His grace. You were at the edge of a pit of Hell, and He rescued you from it. God makes His signs clear to you, so that you may be guided.”

    -Surah Al-Imran [3:103]

“He has prescribed for you the religion which He enjoined upon Noah and which We revealed to you (O Muhammad), and which We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus, commanding: “Establish and uphold this religion and do not split up regarding it.…Allah chooses for Himself whoever He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns ˹to Him˺”

    Surah Ash-Shuraa [42:13]

“Verily, Allah loves the believers who fight in His path seeking His pleasure, in rows alongside one another as if they are one solid [single] structure

    [Surah Saff: 4]

    1. Recite! In the name of your Lord who created”

      — Surah Al-’Alaq [96:1]

    2. “And (it is) a Qur’ân which We have divided (into parts), in order that you might recite it to men at intervals. And We have revealed it in stages.”

      — Surah Al-Isra [17:106]

    3. “...So recite what is easy of it…and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever you send forth for yourselves of good, you will find it with Allah. It (will be) better and greater (in) reward.”

      — Surah Al-Muzzammil [73:20]

    4. O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’ān as [a thing] abandoned.”

      — Al-Furqan [25: 30]

  • “The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakāh and do not fear except Allah, for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided.”

    [Quran 9:18]

Get Involved

There are 2 main ways to get involved in the One Ummah Recitation campaign:

Recite

As a reciter, you can contribute a few ayahs towards the khatam and contribute any amount you can towards the fundraiser for the people of Palestine.

“...So recite what is easy of it…and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever you send forth for yourselves of good, you will find it with Allah. It (will be) better and greater (in) reward.”

  • Al-Muzzammil [73:20]

Sponsor A Reciter

Listening to the Qur’an is also a blessed and beneficial act, therefore the opportunity to Sponsor (donate towards the fundraiser in support of the people of Palestine) has also been made available as an alternative to taking part as a reciter.

“So when the Qur’ān is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.

  • Al-A'raf [7:204]

“So when We have recited it, then follow its recitation.

  • Al-Qiyamah [75:18]

Benefits

The One Ummah Recitation challenge is unique in the way that it combines multiple acts of ibadah that are loved by Allah - reciting the Qur’an, uniting the Ummah and supporting one another in standing up for justice:

Whether that is through making du’a or making donations, don’t forget to remember Allah - true victory is only achieved with Him.

Recite:

Recite

  • For this campaign, the Quran has been shared into 1250 sections (on average 5 ayahs each)

Select the section that you would like to contribute towards the One Ummah Recitation and notify us by filling in the Ayah Allocation Sheet

This form will also give you the opportunity to:

    • make a dua request (this will be added to the Pray for Palestine page) and

    • promote a purposeful (halal) project, organization or cause.

The next part is easy - As Jibreel (A.S) said to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) - Recite!

You can choose to do this alone or to do it with family, friends, members of your ISOC/MSA, work colleagues etc.

  • The ayah allocation sheet will also allow you to make a donation at the point of the form’s submission

  • Upload your recitation so it can be made available to Sponsors (i.e. people who are inspired to make a donation as a result of your recitation - thereby maximizing your reward with Allah إن شاء الله)

  • Know someone who would love the chance to join the One Ummah Recitation?

Great! Nominate them to contribute towards the completion of this khatam as well!

Sponsor a Reciter

Sponsor A Reciter

  • Once you have sponsored a recitation, share it so that others can do the same!

You can also encourage your loved ones to join in by sponsoring a recitation or submitting a recitation of their own!

(Don’t forget that you will also gain rewards for encouraging their participation إن شاء الله)

  • "If Allāh had willed, He would have united them upon guidance. So never be of the ignorant"

    Surah Al-An'aam [6:35]

  • "... So for this let the competitors compete."

    Surah Al-Mutafifeen [83:26]

  • "who is he that will lend to Allah a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times? And it is Allah that decreases or increases (your provisions), and unto Him you shall return.”

    Surah Al-Baqarah [2:145]

FAQs

  • The inspiration for this was taken from the 20th Ayah of Surah 73 where Allah commands us to “recite what is easy of it (i.e. the Qur’an)

The aim of the campaign is to show that, righteous actions we may have difficulty facing alone (e.g. completing a khatam of the Qur’an, creating meaningful change, build a mosque), would become easy if we were to work together to achieve these goals.

Our hope and dua is that we all gain a heightened awareness of our connection and power as an Ummah - as the Ummah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) - the best Ummah according to Surah Al-Imran Ayah: 110.

إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّٰهُ this understanding will enable us to collectively achieve more good than we ever could individually.

  • You can do both! If you cannot sit together or be in the same room, jump on a video call (Instagram Live, Skype, Zoom, Google Meet etc.) and use a screen-recording tool to record the recitation - whatever works! We can’t wait to see (and sponsor) it!

  • YES! Both Reciters and sponsors are able to submit a dua request each - this will be posted on our Instagram so Muslims around the world can make dua on your behalf

  • Yes! Reciters and Sponsors will be given an opportunity to nominate the next cause to be supported by The One Ummah Recitation campaign.

  • Absolutely not! We understand that everyone can afford different amounts so you are in total control of how much you choose to donate for the sake of Allah (SWT) - we pray He accepts your good deeds, donations and duas!

  • Yes, this is because the recitations are intended to create a strong sense of our unified community - in reciting as an Ummah, this concept of community is key. We want the world to see appreciate the beauty of Allah’s words and the diversity that exists within His deen!

In supporting the people of Palestine, we also want our brothers and sisters to be able to see and be comforted by Allah’s message, advice and promises - indeed, Allah never fails in His promise.

  • If all the ayahs you are comfortable reciting have been allocated, then you may have the opportunity to recite the ayahs of your choice once one khatam is completed and a new khatam begins.

However, do feel free to challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone by selecting a section of the Qur’an that you aren’t entirely familiar with - we pray Allah grants you ease!
